Passion by Lauren Kate

I had to read Fallen twice to really get into the story, but by the time I read Torment, I had fallen (teehee!) in love with Luce and Daniel's story. Needless to say, I was super excited when Passion came out, because I had been curious for a long time about Luce's history. Here's the summary from Goodreads: Luce would die for Daniel.

And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart: Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn’t need to be that way. . . .

Luce is certain that something—or someone—in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime . . . going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel . . . and finally unlock the key to making their love last.

Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history.

Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames . . . forever.

This book picks up immediately where Torment left off, with Luce disappearing into the Announcer. Throughout the whole book, Luce is jumping from place to place, revisiting, sometimes reliving her past lives with the aid of a new friend called "Bill." There's romance, betrayal, exotic settings, time travel, and of course, lots of passion.

What I liked: 1) Uh, time travel. In a very, non-time travel-ly way. Can I just say that Ms. Kate did her research when it came to the different locations that Luce traveled to, and the different time periods. It was all incredibly well written. 2) The different incarnations of Luce - for the very short amount of time we spent with each of them, they were all incredibly well developed. 3) Daniel's persistence as he's chasing Luce through their memories. 4) I just love Daniel and Luce's story. They make me happy. 5) The twist! Arg! How long until Rapture comes out?!?

What I didn't like: 1) I missed Luce's friends. Arriane is one of my favorite characters, and I missed her in this story.

Overall thoughts: I love this series! Ever since I read Fallen, I've wondered where this story was going to go, and that is what's made it so good. I don't read it and put it back on the shelf and forget about it. I'm so curious to see where it's going to end when the fourth and final book, Rapture comes out in Spring 2012. Especially after the twist at the end of the book! The story is incredibly well written and furthers this epic love story wonderfully. I think Torment has been my favorite book so far, but that doesn't mean that Passion is by any means an inferior book. If you haven't read Passion, pick it up. And if you haven't yet delved into the Fallen series, well, what are you waiting for?!?!

My rating: 5 shots

  5. Aw. Shucks. I have not read this yet since I have to wade through a thickening pile of TBR books. Still, good review. Daniel and Luce, FTW!

  6. You know, I'm still not sure, I read Fallen, still haven't read Torment and I still don't know what the big deal is.

  8. Hi, there, and thanks for becoming a follower!!! I'm now following back!!

I really liked this review. You're right on target regarding this book! I liked it a lot, too, and gave it 5 stars.

I didn't like "Torment" as much as you did, though. I found it a bit too slow. Other than that, though, I LOVE this series! And I agree with you on the thoroughness of Kate's research. She made each historical period sound so vivid! She has great attention to detail.

I, too, can't wait for "Rapture" to come out!! : )

  9. this on my to read list! I am so glad you liked it its got me more excited about it.

  10. Hee hee! Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't replied, but I've stopped by all of your blogs! I hope you all enjoy Passion. I'm head over heels for Luce and Daniel.
